It’s amazing to see what your body goes through during pregnancy. Not only are you growing a tiny human inside of you but your body is doing the work without you having to press a button or make a command— it’s pretty astounding. Because of the drastic growth around your abdomen during pregnancy, many women suffer from stretch marks– leaving them feeling like they’ll never get into a yellow polka dot bikini again. Although your skin is the largest, and one of the most resilient organs in your body, after it’s been stretched to its limits during pregnancy, you may have a mark or two to show for it. Luckily, with treatments like microneedling, we at Twin City Plastic Surgery can help you to reduce the appearance of these stretch marks.
What Is Micro Needling?
Yes, micro needling may sound like a hobby your grandmother likes to do while watching soap opera’s, but it’s quite different. Microneedling is a process that utilizes a handpiece to create tiny channels into the dermis which triggers the skin’s natural healing process— creating collagen and elastin in the process.
How Many Sessions Will I Need?
During your initial consultation with Twin City Plastic Surgery, we will be able to give you an idea of how many treatments you may need. On average, however, patients need anywhere from 3-6 treatments until they start to see visible results. Additionally, we recommend 1-2 treatments a year for maintenance.
What Is Recovery Like?
Your stomach will likely be a little tender to the touch and red for a few days following your micro needling procedure. During this recovery period, make sure that you don’t expose your midriff to the sun or apply any retinol based creams— both of these can exacerbate the skin and cause an adverse reaction.
Over the process of a few weeks, you will notice a change in the texture of your skin. Additionally, you will also start to see a visible reduction in the appearance of stretch marks.
