Male Breast Reduction Procedure

Liposuction is used when the enlarged breasts are due primarily to excess fatty tissue. With this procedure, the doctor inserts a thin, hollow tube which is moved back and forth to loosen the fat; the fat is then removed with a vacuum. Some men may also need excision and actual removal of the breast tissue to correct the problem, particularly if the size or shape of the areola needs to be reduced.
Bandages will cover the areas where incisions were made, and in certain cases, elastic bandages or support garments will be used to minimize swelling. In addition, a small drainage tube might be placed under the surface of the skin in order to remove any excess blood or fluid.
