Abdominoplasty, more commonly known as a tummy tuck is one of the most popular surgeries in the plastic surgery world. If you’re unhappy with the way your abdominal region looks and are considering this procedure, we’ve compiled a list of things to consider before pursuing this procedure.
- Plan for enough time off
If you are considering a tummy tuck, be sure you can take enough time off of work or other activities you may have planned. For the first two weeks, you’ll want to be focused on healing and recovery, so make sure you can do that. If you have children, make sure you can make arrangements for care for them during this time.
- Make sure you have help
Similar to the first point, you will need to make arrangements for help for yourself as well. Abdominoplasty surgery requires you to rely on others because you’re recommended to avoid lifting things at first. You may also need help with basic tasks like getting dressed and getting out of bed for the first few days. You also won’t be able to drive for at least a week due to the location of the incision site as well as taking pain medications. If you need to drive anywhere, arrange for someone else to do that for you.
- Eat healthily and stay hydrated
Drinking enough water and eating nutritious food will help the healing process. On a related note, you also might have a smaller appetite for the first few months. This is usually due to the muscles in that area being tightened.
- Be realistic about your results and expectations
Abdominoplasty can deliver incredible results but you also won’t see them right away. Full results likely won’t be seen for up to a year post-op. That doesn’t mean you won’t see a difference before then, but managing your expectations is helpful to avoid being discouraged during the healing process.
