If you’re considering abdominoplasty and are curious about ways to make your recovery more comfortable, continue reading. Keep in mind that our best advice is to follow your post-op instructions, but we’ve also gathered a few other tips to keep in mind to ensure you have a speedy and safe recovery.

Eat a Well-Balanced and Healthy Diet

Eat nutrient-rich, healthy foods. Your body needs nutrients to heal. That doesn’t just mean eating your fruits and vegetables, though those are important. Remember to incorporate healthy fats into your diet as well as foods that are rich in protein. Think avocados and salmon.

Walk When You Can

Though working out isn’t recommended, when you feel up to it, you should try to walk around. Walking for 20 to 30 minutes a day is a great way to build back up your strength as well as get your blood circulating.

Hydration is Key

An important addition to eating healthy is staying hydrated. Drink plenty of water before and after your procedure to ensure your body can flush out toxins and also heal. We recommend getting into the habit of drinking lots of water before your procedure but any time you want to start is encouraged.

Wear Compression Garments

It’s normal to experience swelling in the surgical area following your procedure. Wearing a girdle or binder can help provide support during your healing process and it’s suggested you do so, even when you sleep.

Maintain Realistic Expectations

Your body won’t be perfect immediately following surgery. There is a bit of recovery time involved and it isn’t pain-free. Take your recovery one day at a time and remember it’s a process. Make sure you’re following your post-op instructions and if you do experience any unusual symptoms, don’t hesitate to give us a call.
