Waxing your skin is an art— that’s why you only trust the best professionals to get the job done. In order to get the best possible results, it’s important that you pay close attention and avoid the following things before you head to the salon to get waxed.
- Don’t Shave
It might sound like a no brainer, but you would be surprised by how many people show up to the waxing salon with skin that was recently shaved. In fact, it’s important to let your hair grow out for at least a full week before you get waxed— the longer the hair is, the easier it will be for the wax to grasp onto the hair.
- Don’t Exfoliate
Exfoliating your skin right before you get it waxed will just cause irritation and will likely cause your skin to hurt more during your waxing session. In fact, it’s probably wise to stay off of the exfoliation wagon for at least a day or two before your waxing session— just to play it safe.
- Avoid Retinol
If you use a facial or body cream that contains retinol, try to take a break from using this cream at least a few days before your first waxing session. Retinol is great at clearing up acne and helping to get rid of fine lines and wrinkles, but it can also cause your skin to become super sensitive to things like waxing— leaving you in a world of pain and hurt. Avoid that pain altogether and get off of retinol before you head to the waxing salon.
- Avoid Moisturizing on the Day Of
If moisturizing your skin after you get out of the shower is part of your daily routine, skip this step on the day of your waxing session. Although great for your skin 99% of the time, moisturizers can also clog your pores and hair follicles, making it harder for the aesthetician to get all of the hair out when waxing.
If you experience any sort of breakout in hives, acne, a redness, or burning after waxing, then it’s important that you call your doctor as soon as possible. However, by following the above four tips, you can help to ensure that you have the best waxing experience as possible. To learn more or to schedule a waxing appointment, contact our office today!
