With at-home waxing kits available over-the-counter at superstores like Target and Walmart, more and more people are skipping in-office waxing and are opting to do it on their own. However, although some patients are effective at getting visibly smoother and hair-free skin, a lot of people come into our office wanting a professional wax because they didn’t get the hair out or had an adverse reaction. If you are interested in trying an at-home waxing kit, here are three things to be aware of.
Watch the Temperature
If you are using an at-home waxing kit that requires you to heat up wax either on the stove top or in the microwave, be extremely mindful of the temperature. If it is too hot, you are more prone to burning. Whereas if it’s too cold, it will just ball up and won’t spread across your skin. Try testing the wax on a very small portion of your skin, like your arm, before spreading it to make sure it’s the correct temperature.
It May Not Work As Well
One thing that many patients aren’t aware of is just how much of an art waxing is. When you come into Twin City Plastic Surgery, all of our aestheticians have been properly trained on how to get rid of hair with wax without causing harm to your skin. When you try it on your own, however, you may not get the results that you want— leaving you feeling frustrated.
Read the Instructions Over and Over and Over Again
Whether you’re using waxing strips or hot wax, make sure that you read and then reread the instructions so that you are doing everything correctly. Although waxing is a safe way to remove unwanted body hair, if it’s done incorrectly, it can cause permanent scarring or burning.
Even though at-home waxing kits are a popular way for patients to remove unwanted body hair, they are not always safe or effective. Hopefully, by using the tips listed above, you will have an enjoyable waxing experience. If, however, you want to get professionally waxed, contact Twin City Plastic Surgery today to schedule an appointment with our expert staff of waxers.
