Breast reconstruction is a surgical procedure that is done to help reconstruct the breasts after a mastectomy. During this procedure, the goal is to either use a patient’s own tissue or implants to replace the removed breast.
Although breast reconstruction surgery isn’t right for everyone, we do have two options for patients to choose from based on their lifestyle, the results they want, and their health. Let’s take a closer look at the two types of breast reconstruction procedures that we offer.
During this type of reconstruction, we use the patient’s own tissue to help rebuild the breasts. Tissue can be extracted from different areas of the body including the inside of the thighs, the back, the buttocks, and the abdomen.
During this procedure, we will use either a silicone or saline implant to replace the breasts. In some instances, the implant can be placed during the mastectomy, but some patients prefer to have some expanders inserted and then wait until they have healed from the mastectomy.
